Where the Wild Things Are

Just in case any one ever reads my posts after so much time between…here’s one about our vacation.  Last month we took the kids on our first family vacation.  Our first stop was the zoo where Sawyer informed us he didn’t know if he wanted to go on vacation or not.  He put his hesitation aside while we viewed the animals, and we had a fabulous time.  Some of my favorite animals were the spoonbills and the river otters, and he called those “itter otters.”  Sheridan really enjoyed the giraffes, and we went onto the feeding platform to get up close and personal.  She didn’t feed them, but she probably would have if she wasn’t strapped into the stroller.  She told all the animals “hi” and “bye.”  Sawyer was less timid this time compared to his last visit.  We saw rhinos, reptiles, bears, lions, tigers, zebras, elephants, birds, and much more.  I think the only animals we didn’t get to see were the wolves and the gorillas.  We also went to the aquarium, and a good time was had by all.  Sawyer loved playing at all the kids’ stations, and Sheridan wasn’t a bit bothered by the dark.  Of course the sharks were the best part, but Sawyer also wanted to look for turtles and a sunken ship.  Sheridan ran around everywhere and had the gumption to touch a horseshoe crab when several bystanders more advanced in years shied away.  We also spent a lot of time walking and driving around and playing at the hotel.  Both kids loved the pool.  Sawyer could not get enough of the arcade and couldn’t wait to go back.  He picked up a brochure and used it as his “map” to navigate us to our attractions.  Sheridan scored an enormous teddy bear that she snuggled up to, and she and I enjoyed some girls-only shopping while the guys wisely (??) invested a small fortune at the arcade.  It was an exhausting but fun, sweet, and memorable time.  I can’t wait for our next trip!
